Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Cochin to Agra β Arrival and Evening Leisure
This fun trip starts with the travel between Cochin and Agra either by air or by train. On arrival you will be welcomed by a representative of Rajasthan Cab who will take you in the hotel wherein you will check in to your hotel, have dinner in the hotel and rest up after a very long journey. Later in the evening head towards Mehtab Bagh, a peaceful Mughal garden located on the other side of Yamuna River. It is here that you can have a spectacular sunset view of the Taj Mahal, which is shining in the evening sky. Then, visit Sadar Bazaar, which is one of the most active markets in Agra where you may buy some marble to remember it, buy some handmade work, leather items, and also enjoy the well-known Agra petha. Dine and spend the night at Agra in a hotel.
Day 2: Taj Mahal and Agra Fort Tour.
Wake up early in the morning and visit the most famous in the world Taj Mahal in the morning. Among the most exceptional scenes of the trip, is the impression about the monument when the golden-pink light is cast upon it. Take a stroll through its extensive gardens, water pools and marvel at the exquisite Mughal works done in marble. Following breakfast, visit the very powerful Agra Fort, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and constructed by Emperor Akbar. Indoorly visit Jahangir Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas, Diwan-i-Aam and the large courtyards which depict the might of the Mughal Empire. During the evening, the Itmad-ud-Daulah Tomb, also known as the Baby Taj because of its fine marble inlay and lattice work, is a nice place to visit. Overnight stay in Agra.
Day 3: Fatehpur Sikri and Bharatpur Excursion
Day three, has a full-day tour which begins with Fatehpur Sikri, the old Mughal capital of Akbar. Visit the beautiful Buland Darwaza, the great Jama Masjid, and the holy Tomb of Salim Chishti, the place where people still visit to get blessings. The Panch Mahal and Diwan-i-Khas are destinations that demonstrate architectural excellence of the Mughals. Then proceed to Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary (Keoladeo National Park), which is a UNESCO World Heritage, as the place of migratory birds, including cranes, pelicans, and storks. Ride a rickshaw within the park to sightsee and do some photography of birds. In the evening go back to Agra where you will spend the night in your hotel.
Day 4: Sikandra and leave to Cochin.
Eat breakfast in the hotel on your last day then check out. The tomb of Emperor Akbar known as Sikandra is arguably the best attraction site in Agra and it is located just outside the city. The fusion of Hindu, Islamic and Buddhist features in this monument makes it special with a soothing garden surrounding. It is a good spot to complete your sightseeing in Agra. Subsequently, I have free time exploring local markets like Kinari Bazaar or Subhash Bazaar to end up shopping for last minute textiles, marble crafts or jewelry. You can then later visit the railway station or airport on your way back to Cochin with memorable experiences of the heritage, culture and the beauty of Agra.
