The weather is pleasant and suitable for a spiritual trip, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures. The monsoon season from July to August could be avoided due to landslides and roadblocks. September to October offers a serene escape. The winter season from November to March is extremely cold with heavy snowfall, making it accessible in dangerous times.
By Air – Flight from Bangalore to Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport, the nearest airport to Chardham. From Dehradun, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to visit Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.
By Train – Take a train journey from Bangalore to Haridwar or Rishikesh. From there, you can travel by road via buses or taxis.
By Road – Bangalore to Haridwar/Rishikesh taxi rental will make it easier for you to travel to Chardham. Upon reaching Haridwar/Rishikesh, you can begin your journey to Chardham comfortably.
Kickstart the Char Dham Tour from Bangalore by flying from Bangalore to Haridwar. On reaching Haridwar, you will be escorted to Barkot, a town located close to Yamunotri. Barkot serves as a base camp for pilgrims visiting Yamunotri. Stay overnight in Barkot.
The next day is dedicated to visiting Yamunotri Temple, the source of the Yamuna River. Taking a day trip from Barkot involves a short drive or trek of 18 kilometers. We will begin a road trip to Yamunotri. From Janki Chatti, which is the road head, you will need to proceed by palanquin, horse ride or trek up to the temple. According to your physical fitness, the trek from Janki Chatti to Yamunotri Temple can take away between 30 minutes to 2 hours. If time and energy allow, you can also visit the Sanki Temple, dedicated to Lord Saturn, on this day. Return to the base camp at Barkot for an overnight stay.
On the 3rd day of this tour, you will begin a journey to Uttarkashi, a town located on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. Uttarkashi is another important tourist spot on the Char Dham Yatra Route. As compared to later journeys in this itinerary, this is a shorter drive away. After visiting the sacred sites at Uttarkashi, stay overnight in the hotel.
The next day fourth of this tour is dedicated to visiting Gangotri Temple, the source of the Ganges River. Just like Yamunotri, this is another day excursion from Uttarkashi, involving a drive and possible trek to Gangotri. The distance from Uttarkashi to Gangotri is approximately 90 kilometers. From Gangotri, you will need to take a jeep or taxi to reach Gangotri temple located about 19 kilometers away. Afterwards, return to Uttarkashi for a relaxing night stay in Gangotri.
On day 5, you will be transferred from Uttarkashi to Guptkashi, a town that serves as a base for Kedarnath. It is a longer drive as compared to previous days, at approximately 220 km and taking 8 to 9 hours. Stay overnight in Guptkashi.
The next day is dedicated to visiting Kedarnath Temple, located at a high altitude of around 3,500 meters. The journey to Kedarnath Temple involves a drive from Guptkashi, followed by a moderately challenging trek. The total distance from Guptkashi to Kedarnath is 30 kilometres, out of which 19 kilometres need to be covered by trek. Due to the high altitude, a same-day return from Kedarnath is highly recommended for pilgrims, especially those who are not acclimatised to high altitudes. Stay overnight in Guptkashi.
On day 7, you will begin a journey from Guptkashi to Badrinath, another holy town located in the Himalayas. This is a scenic drive with scenic mountain landscapes, at approximately 160 kilometres and takes 7 hours. Stay overnight in Badrinath.
After breakfast, the day involves travelling from Badrinath to Rudraprayag via Joshimath. Joshimath is a small sacred town known for its charming beauty and serves as a gateway to Badrinath. The exact route taken on this day might involve multiple stopovers depending on the specific tour itinerary followed by your tour operator. Stay overnight in Rudraprayag.
On the last day of your journey, you will be transferred from Rudraprayag to Haridwar, marking the end of this Char Dham Yatra Tour. From Haridwar, you will board your flight back to Bangalore. The tour ends here.
