Chennai to Chardham Yatra trip can be best planned from April to June or September to October. During these months, the climate is mild, pleasant and breathtaking.
The monsoon season (from July to August) should be avoided due to heavy rainfall, landslides and slippery roads. The winter season is too cold and snowy, with the temple remaining closed for the season.
Travelling by air from Chennai to Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport would be the most convenient mode of transportation. After reaching Dehradun, you can hire a taxi service to explore Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.
Take a train journey from Chennai to Haridwar or Rishikesh and from there resume your journey by road using buses or taxis.
Drive or take a bus from Chennai to Haridwar/Rishikesh, then proceed by local taxis or buses to explore the Chardham destinations.
Start your spiritual journey with a flight from Chennai to the national capital, Delhi. Depending on your flight schedule, you can choose to relax in Delhi or visit some of the city's iconic landmarks, such as the Jama Masjid or the Red Fort.
Take a morning train or flight to Haridwar, the holy town that marks the gateway to the Char Dhams. On arrival, check into the hotel and spend the evening while attending the Ganga Aarti ceremony at Har ki Pauri, a soul-soothing experience for devotees. Spend the remaining day at leisure. Stay overnight in Haridwar.
After having a refreshing breakfast, embark on a scenic drive towards Barkot, a beautiful hill station nestled amid the Garhwal Himalayas. Complete the check-in process and spend the evening at leisure, enjoying the serene mountain vistas. Stay overnight in Barkot.
Wake up early for an exciting journey to Yamunotri, the source of the mighty Yamuna River. Since this place is located at a higher altitude, ponies or palanquins are available for those who may find the uphill climb challenging. Witness the religious aarti at the Yamunotri Temple and partake in the customary holy dip in the Jwalamukhi kund with warm water. After a fulfilling experience, return to Barkot for a comfortable stay overnight.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and scenic drive from Barkot to Uttarkashi, another significant Hindu pilgrimage site. Spend the evening while exploring the town’s rich heritage culture and serene atmosphere.
Get ready for another enthralling journey to Gangotri – the origin of the sacred Ganges River. Seek blessings at the Gangotri temple and perform the customary rituals, including filling your pot with holy Ganga water for offerings back home. After a spiritually enriching experience, return to Uttarkashi for the right.
The day is dedicated to take you for a journey to Guptkashi, a scenic town serving as a base camp for Kedarnath. Because of limited time, Kedarnath’s high altitude, you will stay overnight in Guptkashi and embark on the Kedarnath pilgrimage, the next day. Spend the evening at leisure.
The most challenging part of your journey is a trek to Kedarnath. If time and physical limitations are a concern, consider the optional helicopter service from Guptkashi to Kedarnath and back. It will give you more time to spend at the holy shrine. After seeking blessings and enjoying the breathtaking Himalayan panorama, descend back to Guptkashi, where a comfortable stay awaits you.
Take a break far away from the high mountains and set out for a drive to Rudraprayag, where the rivers Mandakini and Alaknanda converge. Make a stop at Joshimath, another important Hindu pilgrimage town, on the way.
On the last day of this tour, leave for a journey back to Badrinath. After reaching there, take a journey back to Chennai by flight. The tour concludes here.
