Day-by-Day

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Reach Chandigarh and take a transfer to Narkanda.

When visitors reach Chandigarh, they would be received and taken to Narkanda-a very serene hill station that is lying at about 175 kilometers, which would take 6 hours by car. This place has been set amongst the sprawling apple orchards to provide the most tranquil environment for relaxation. There is free time in the evenings for exploration of the local markets or just lying back with the beauty of the mountains in the surroundings.

Day 2: Narkanda to Sangla via Rampur and Karcham.

From here it goes to Sangla, 160 km from here. During the journey one passes through Rampur old town with excellent history and culture. A small visit to Karcham Dam gives an idea of the hydroelectric projects that are in place. A guest reaches the Baspa Valley at Sangla and can visit Kamru Fort or absorb the traditions that this land has to offer in Kinnaur.

Day 3: Sangla to Kalpa via Chitkul

It is a short drive after breakfast, taking one through the last inhabited village at the Indo-Tibetan border. Chitkul is seen for its scenery and wooden houses exhaling the rustic Himalayan lifestyle. After moving through it, the drive continues to Kalpa, which is 50 km from here. Kalpa is famous for panoramic views of the Kinner Kailash range with ancient temples.

Day 4: Kalpa to Tabo via Nako

It is a road journey from Kalpa to Tabo, stopping time at Nako Village. It is about 100 kilometers from Kalpa and is especially famous for its serene lake and the ancient Nako Monastery, which houses some exquisite murals and manuscripts. In the evening one reaches Tabo. Called the 'Ajanta of the Himalayas', Tabo Monastery is also a UNESCO World Heritage site with beautiful frescoes and statues.

Day 5: Tabo to Kaza via Dhankar

Today the distance will be approximately 50 km but full of experience. The first point of visit will be Dhankar Monastery placed precariously on a cliff and offers an eye-opening view of the confluence of rivers Spiti and Pin. Further driving will take tourists to Kaza, which is an administrative center of the valley of Spiti. They may visit the local market as people make preparatory moves to seek adventures identified on the subsequent days while at Kaza.

Day 6: Kaza – Key Monastery – Kibber – Langza – Hikkim – Komic

It is the day for a trip to some of the highest villages and monasteries off Kaza. It begins with the largest monastery of Spiti - the Key Monastery, best with spectacular architecture and spiritual ambiance Then it proceeds to Kibber Village, once declared the highest motorable village in the world. The road leads to Langza, also famous for marine fossils, Hikkim, which is the housing place of the world's highest post office, and Komic, one of the highest villages in Asia.

Day 7: Drive from Kaza to Chandratal Lake via Kunzum Pass.

The fabulous Chandratal Lake, also known as 'Moon Lake', can be reached by taking early morning departures from Kaza. Again on this trip, one passes through Kunzum Pass at an altitude of 4,551 meters. To one's eyes, the sight is fabulous, for it is presented against the highest peaks of the Himalayas. Overnight camping nearby to this lake under the starry night sky is quite an adventure.

Day 8: Chandratal to Manali and Departure

The tour will be returning today, to Manali. This place is 125 km from Chandratal. And it's a day crossing very tricky yet very beautifully famous Rohtang Pass. On arrival in Manali, the rest of the time will be used by tourists either for local sightseeing or some shopping of souvenirs, and thereafter getting transferred to the airport or bus station for returning back to Kolkata.
