Best Time to Visit Rajasthan: A Season-by-Season Guide
Winter (October–March, 10–30°C)
Rajasthan runs hot for most of the year, so timing your trip matters more here than in almost any other Indian state. The sweet spot is October to March, when daytime temperatures settle between 15°C and 28°C and evenings turn pleasantly cool, sometimes cold enough for a jacket in Jaipur or Jaisalmer by December.
October to February especially delivers the kind of weather that makes fort-climbing and desert safaris actually enjoyable instead of exhausting. Expect crowds and higher hotel and transport rates during this window, so book your tour package early through a trusted operator. It's the ideal stretch for Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Mandawa and Ranthambore it lines up with the Pushkar Camel Fair, Bikaner Camel Festival, Jaipur Literature Festival, Kite Festival in january and Mount Abu's winter exhibitions and Jaipur's Elephant Festival lands around Holi in March, both worth building an itinerary around.
Summer (April–June, 40–45°C)
Desert circuits get brutal in April to June, with temperatures crossing 45°C, so this isn't the season for Jaisalmer or Bikaner. Mount Abu is the exception — Rajasthan's only hill station, with cooler air, lakes and temples. Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur, known for their forts and Jain temples, also stay manageable. Summer is oddly good for tiger sightings at Ranthambore, since tigers head to waterholes more often.
Monsoon (July–September, 21–35°C)
This season brings relief from the heat and turns, Ranthambore closes for the season, but Udaipur turns spectacular — lakes full, heritage hotels glowing, a favorite for honeymooners. Bundi's Phool Sagar Lake blooms with lotus flowers by September, and Keoladeo National Park (a UNESCO site) draws serious birdwatchers. Don't miss Teej in Jaipur or Kajli Teej in Bundi.
