India has one of the most sacred journeys, called the Char Dham Yatra. It includes the four sacred shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath in Uttarakhand. Each year, lakhs of pilgrims visit these places in pursuit of spiritual satisfaction and the blessings of deities. Due to the increasing number of devotees, the rugged Himalayan land, and the control of the crowds and the security of the pilgrims, the Uttarakhand Government has registered the Char Dham Yatra 2026. Registration is required before 30-40 days from the temple opening announced date. Generally, the Temple opens at the end of April or early in May.

Is the Char Dham Registration Mandatory?

Char Dham Yatra Registration is mandatory for all pilgrims for their safety and security. The Uttarakhand Government has announced it. The following reasons are why registration is mandatory- 

  • Safety monitoring- For safety purposes, it is necessary to know the exact location of pilgrims in case of an emergency to provide immediate support.
  • Crowd control- It is important for the safety and security of the pilgrims, as it is essential to manage the gathering of pilgrims at a specific area by continuously tracking them.
  • Biometric Tracking- Pilgrims receive a registration slip or QR code that helps authorise and track the number of pilgrims, for crowd control and medical monitoring for emergency assistance.

Ways to Register for the Char Dham Yatra?

Two ways, online and offline, are available to register for the Char Dham Yatra 2026.

1. Online Registration: It can be done on the Official website or on WhatsApp. Simply type YATRA and send it to 8394833833,  the (Tourist Care Uttarakhand App) Mobile App, or by calling the toll-free number 01351364.

2. Offline Registration: It can be done at many official registration centres in various towns of Uttarakhand for pilgrims who can not register online.  

Step-by-Step Online Registration Process for Char Dham Yatra 2026

1. Char Dham Yatra Registration Process Via Official Portal

Steps:

  1.  Visit the official website registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in  for registration. 
  2. Now, click on the register option and select the category(Individual, Family or tour operator), and create an account for the website. If you are already registered, there is no need to register. After that, you will get an OTP on your registered mobile number for verification.
  3. If you successfully logged in and started filling out the registration form, fill in all the required fields, including name, gender, and age of all the pilgrims of the family, travel details, and travel plan.   
  4. Select dates fill the travelling dates.
  5. Upload documents- Then upload the valid documents of all the family pilgrims.
  6. Then you will get a registration number with the latter & QR code. Download this letter and print it, which is required at every checkpoint of the journey. 

2. Char Dham Yatra Mobile App Registration Process

  1. Firstly, download the application “Tourist Care Uttarakhand” app. 
  2. After that, you will see the login option, then click on it and select the category, such as individual, family, or tour operator. 
  3. Create an account by using your name, Mobile number, and set a password.
  4. If you are already registered, there is no need to create an account.
  5. Then you will get an OTP for verification.
  6. Once you successfully logged in, your name will appear on the left side of the dashboard.
  7. Click on the name and start filling out the form.
  8. Add all the information and upload all the valid ID proofs.
  9. Download the registration letter with QR code. 
  10. The application also provides additional information about the Char Dham Yatra, including weather updates, a route map, and hotel accommodation options.

3.  Char Dham Yatra Registration Process Via WhatsApp

  1. Pilgrims can register via WhatsApp. Simply type YATRA and send it to 8394833833.
  2. Then follow the instructions to complete the registration.

4. Char Dham Registration Process Via Toll-free Number 

  1. If you are not comfortable with online, WhatsApp, or mobile registration, then you can call the toll-free number 01351364.
  2. The representative will assist you with the registration process.

Step-by-Step Offline Registration Process for Char Dham Yatra 2026

Steps:

  1. Visit the registration counters in Uttarakhand (Haridwar, Rishikesh, Barkot, Heena, Sonprayag, Pandukeshwar, Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib, Govind Ghat, Joshimath, Uttarkashi, Guptkashi, Chamoli, Phata)  counters, and submit your ID proof and photographs.
  2. Fill out the registration form by providing all the details of your family members, including name, age, and gender. Submit all the required documents. 
  3. If asked for a biometric, then it has to be provided by the pilgrims.
  4. Then you will get the e-pass in printed form or in SMS form.
  5. Biometric Verification is required because it is the most accurate, secure and convenient verification method, used to prevent fraud. Biometric verification is done by using an eye scan and a fingerprint.

How to Download Char Dham Yatra E-Pass / QR Code

  • Simply log in to the official portal using your registered mobile number, password, and captcha.
  • Then you will get an OTP on your mobile for verification.
  • Then fill in the registration form with all the required details(Name, Age, Gender, Travel details, Trip plan). After completing the form, upload your documents(Valid ID Proofs).
  • After this, you will get the registration number and letter with a QR code.
  • Print out the letter with a QR code.
  • The registration letter has to be shown at every checkpoint during the yatra.  

Health Guidelines and Medical Requirements for Char Dham Yatra

1. Altitude Issues - There is a possibility of altitude issues during the journey because all the shrines are located at high altitudes. Common altitude issues are headache, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, and fatigue. For the prevention of this, precautions should be taken-

  • Proper Rest
  • Sufficient Hydration
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol
  • Avoid overexertion

2. Medical Certificate -Submission of a health declaration certificate is necessary for the senior citizens, including all the health history and a list of prescribed medications.

3. Age Precautions - Follow the general precautions:

  1. Children (Below 10 years)- Generally, kids suffer from diarrhoea; to prevent this, proper hydration, nutritious food, slow walks and proper covering of the body are a must-taken actions.

  2. Adults (18-25 years)- For a smooth journey, physical fitness, proper nutrition, sufficient hydration, and avoiding overexertion are required steps.

  3. Senior Citizens ( Above 60 Years)- Extra precautions must be taken in the case of senior citizens. These are listed below-

    • Travelling should be done in a group.
    • A complete body checkup is mandatory before starting the journey.
    • A proper medical kit, which includes all the prescribed medicines and general medicines.
    • Senior citizens should prefer the helicopter service for visiting at altitudes to avoid overexertion.

Char Dham Yatra Registration Process for Helicopter Booking

Separate booking- A separate booking is required for getting the helicopter service because it is not included in the normal travel packages

Passenger verification is a must for helicopter services during the Char Dham Yatra.

  1. Government-issued ID proofs should be carried during the Yatra.
  2. Digital copies of ID proofs will not be accepted.

What are the Char Dham Yatra Registration Fees?

The Char Dham Yatra registration process is a government service, and it is free for all pilgrims. All pilgrims must register for the Char Dham Yatra.

Service charges- Extra service charges will be paid for an available helicopter ride, accommodation, VIP darshan, and vehicle permit.

Helicopter general costs are: Kedarnath helicopter ride- 6000-12000 rupees approx per person ( round trip) / Complete Char Dham Yatra- 1.8- 2.5 lakh per person.

  3. Many pilgrims fill in the form incorrectly, with the wrong name, age, and ID number.

  4. Using the wrong mobile number in the registration form.

  5. Wrong and blurry documents were uploaded with the form.

  6. Not entering the correct information about all family members.

  7. Entering wrong travel dates creates problems at checkpoints during the journey.

  8. If the registration slip is not downloaded, then it creates a problem at checkpoints for verification.

  4. Then go to My Registration or My Trip.

  1. Best and comfortable Clothing is required, such as waterproof jackets and pants for rainy sessions. Thermal wear for cold weather, Full sleeves for protection from mosquitoes, woollens, socks, raincoat, etc.
